The Symantec Backup Exec team has included a limited number of database applications listed on the BESR Software Compatibility List (SCL). If an application/database is not listed, that does not necessarily mean BESR will not backup your data. Please consider the following:

Backup Exec System Recovery (BESR) is a VSS-enabled backup and recovery product that allows complete synchronization to occur between the server program, BESR, and the Windows storage subsystem.
BESR ensures that pending writes are held while the backup is created. BESR ensures that system state information is accurately captured.
In a VSS-aware database environment, (e.g. Exchange, SQL Server, Oracle 11g, etc) BESR ensures that system state information is accurately captured.
VSS backups and restores require cooperation between the OS, BESR and the server program. Users should refer to their database documentation to determine if additional steps are required for a VSS backup and restore.

Backup Exec System Recovery works within the Microsoft VSS Framework Best Practices model to backup and recover Windows servers. BESR follows Microsoft's strict requirements, ensuring the integrity and recoverability of shadow copy backups. Because these requirements are met, Microsoft considers BESR to be in the compliance of the VSS framework.
