When attempting to open archived items through Outlook, the item fails to retrieve with "The server did not send a complete item"

Details:
This issue will be most noticeable when attempting to retrieve larger items and items with attachments.

Note: Small items will commonly retrieve properly.

Below are a number of errors that may be observed when attempting to retrieve archived items:

From within Outlook:

A. Cannot contact the web server. Please try again later. Unknown error 0x135
80070008

B. Internet Explorer cannot download ...<Subject>.msg from <EVServername>.

The connection with the server was reset.

From Enterprise Vault (EV) Search Archive webapp function (Search.asp/Searcho2k.asp):

Could not show this item.
Please try again; if it still fails, contact your Enterprise Vault administrator.

From the EV Server Internet Information Service(IIS) Log:

GET /EnterpriseVault/download.asp VaultID=<VaultID>&SavesetId=<SavesetID>&Request=NativeItem&EVHeaders=1&Segment=0 80 DOMAIN\EVSVC <IP Address> EnterpriseVault 200 0 64

This IIS log shows the result as "200 0 64".  "64" is a Windows Status Code that translates to:

"The specified network name is no longer available"

Resolution:
Confirm that the boot.ini file on the Enterprise Vault server does not utilize the /3GB or /PAE switches for memory management.
Enterprise Vault does not support the utilization of these switches as they can cause retrieval and indexing issues.  It has also been seen if the Citrix server is utilizing the /3GB switch it can cause issues with retrieval.

Notes:
   a. See Related Documents regarding the use of the /3GB switch.
   b. See Acknowledgements for details of the 3GB and PAE switches.
