The Backup Exec Server service (beserver.exe) stops when SMTP notification is attempted.

Details:
With a recipient configured for SMTP notification within Backup Exec for Windows Servers, testing or using job/alert notification may cause the Backup Exec Server service (beserver.exe) to stop.  The crash will be reported in libvxsmtpmail3i.dl.

Workaround:

Instead of using SMTP notification, use MAPI (Exchange) or VIM (Lotus) for email.
