The Bare Metal Restore (BMR) Fast Restore ISO image will fail to recognize interfaces that use the NVIDIA nForce network adapter.
Exact Error Message
Failed to install network adapters -- check WINBOM
Details:
The native Windows network driver for the NVIDIA nForce NIC
are not compatible with the WinPE environment implemented by BMR for
restores. As such the driver set will not be loaded into the WinPE
temporary OS. If this is the only network card on the client system you
will get the error
message:
Failed to
install network adapters -- check WINBOM
If other network
cards are available on the client system and a network driver was loaded for it,
you will not get the error message, as a network driver and interface will be
available for the restore. However any interfaces associated with the
nForce NIC will not be visible for use in the "Generic Restore"
panel. "Automatic Restore" will not be available for the client as
well.
To repair this environment, you will need to manually import the
RIS driver set into a Fast Restore file system and create a new ISO image from
the update SRT file system.
1. Download the RIS driver set from the
OEM Vendor or from the NVIDIA website to your BMR Windows Boot Server. The
RIS driver version needs to be for Windows 2003. It should consist of a
single ".inf" file and a single ".sys" file.
2. Copy the ".inf"
file into the
path:
$SRT_PATH\$SRT_NAME\i386\inf
3. Copy
the ".sys" file into the
path:
$SRT_PATH\$SRT_NAME\i386\system32\drivers
4.
Use the Bare Metal Restore Boot Server Assistant to create an ISO image from the
updated SRT file system.
5. Create a CD/DVD using the new ISO
image.
6. Boot the restoring client using the updated
CD/DVD.
