The ZFS file system designed by Sun Microsystems for the Solaris Operating System is not officially supported by the Backup Exec Remote Agent for Linux and Unix Servers (RALUS)
Details:
The features of ZFS include support for high storage
capacities, integration of the concepts of filesystem and volume management,
snapshots and copy-on-write clones, continuous integrity checking and automatic
repair, RAID-Z and native NFSv4 ACLs. ZFS is implemented as open-source
software, licensed under the Common Development and Distribution License
(CDDL).
Unlike traditional file systems, which reside on single devices
and thus require a volume manager to use more than one device, ZFS filesystems
are built on top of virtual storage pools called zpools. A zpool is constructed
of virtual devices (vdevs), which are themselves constructed of block devices:
files, hard drive partitions, or entire drives, with the last being the
recommended usage.
ZFS is part of Sun's own Solaris operating
system and is thus available on both SPARC and x86-based systems. Since the code
for ZFS is open source, a port to other operating systems and platforms can be
produced without Sun's involvement.
As of now, ZFS is not officially
supported by any version of Backup Exec RALUS and only partial, limited support
can be provided for issues with installing the agent, backups, or
restores.
"Partial Support" is a
more limited level of Support Services than you would receive under "Standard
Support." Partial Support is when our technical support engineer provides you
with known Fixes/Patches/Workarounds, existing Maintenance Packs, or information
from our technical knowledge base in response to your request for assistance.
Partial Support does not include development of any new modifications (including
security vulnerabilities) to your Licensed Software. Nor will we attempt to
reproduce the Problem or escalate issues through management channels or to our
engineering resources. Such Partial Support will be subject to the availability
of resources, and we may need to limit the time we are able to spend on the
Problem.
