Uninstalling Backup Exec 12.0 for Windows Servers revision 1364 Hotfix 314497 instructions

Details:

On x64bit Media Servers

The following error "Error 1920. Service Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Servers (BackupExecAgentAccelerator) failed to stat. Verify you have sufficient privileges to start system services." will be observed during uninstall.

To resolve this error, perform the following steps:

1. Download the file attached to this Technote.

2. Browse to where Backup Exec was installed to.

3. Rename the file ndmpcomm.dll to ndmpcomm.old.

4. Copy in the ndmpcomm_314684.dll file that was downloaded from this technote, and rename it to ndmpcomm.dll.

5. In the prompt click on Retry.

6. The uninstall will successfully finish.

7. After the uninstall completes, browse to where Backup Exec was installed again, and rename benetns.exe to benetns.old.

8. Open Add/Remote programs in the Control Panel.

9. Select Symantec Backup Exec (TM) 12 for Windows Servers.

10. Click on the Change button.

11. Choose the option to Repair Backup Exec.

12. Finish the installation.

On 32bit Media Servers

The error "The procedure entry point ?CreateListener@BETCPListener@BESocker@@SA?AV?$RefPointer@VBTCPListener@BESocket@@@@GW4AddressUseage@2@H_N@Z could not be located in the dynamic link library besocket.dll" may occur while trying to start the Backup Exec services after uninstalling Hotfix 314497:

To resolve this error, perform the following steps:

1. Browse to where Backup Exec was installed to.

2. Rename the file ndmpcomm.dll to ndmpcomm.old.

3. Rename the file benetns.exe to benetns.old.

4. Open Add/Remote programs in the Control Panel.

5. Select Symantec Backup Exec (TM) 12 for Windows Servers.

6. Click on the Change button.

7. Choose the option to Repair Backup Exec.

8. Finish the installation.
