Agent for Microsoft Virtual Server (AMVS) Granular Recovery Technology (GRT) restore selections may not show up correctly when the Virtual Machine Guest has a corrupt or missing BOOT.INI file.
Details:
After
backing up virtual machines using the Agent for Microsoft Virtual Server the
virtual machine GRT restore selections are displayed as Volume GUIDS and not by
the expected Virtual Machine Guest Names (NetBIOS or FQDN).
A Microsoft
Virtual Server Agent GRT backup may complete with the following exceptions
(FIGURE 1):

Granular Recovery Technology (GRT).
Granular

The
Microsoft Virtual Server Agent GRT restore selections displays VOLUME{GUIDS}
for each volume on the Virtual Machine rather than the Virtual Machine's
Servername as shown in (FIGURE 2).

Workaround:
This
behavior has been observed when the Virtual Machine's BOOT.INI file is
missing, corrupt, or improperly formatted.
Recreating
the Virtual Machine's BOOT.INI resolves the issue.
Resolution:
A service pack
is now available for this issue in the current version(s) of the product(s)
mentioned at the end of this article. Refer to the service pack link under
Related Documents at the end of this article to obtain the service pack needed
to resolve the issue.
