Backup of the Lotus Domino 6.x or later using Symantec Backup Exec 12.0 and later fails with the Final Error 0xe00084b8 and "Database NSF Files in Use -Skipped" is reported in the Job Log.
Details:
Attempt to run
backups of Lotus Domino 6.x or later using Symantec Backup Exec 12.0 or later
fail with the Final Error "0xe00084bf An error occurred during backup.
See the job log for details."
There are two
scenarios in which this issue will occur.
SCENARIO
1: All of the Lotus Database Files i.e NSF Files are skipped and
"NSF Files in Use -skipped" is reported in the Job Log.(Refer to Figure
1)
Figure 1.
WorkaroundA workaround for the above issue is to modify
the registry on both the Media Server and the Remote Lotus Server as per the
following:
1. Stop all Backup Exec Services on the Media server and the
Remote Lotus Domino Server.
2. Open the Windows Registry Editor by
clicking on START > RUN and typing REGEDIT.
Warning:
Incorrect use of the Windows registry editor may prevent the operating system
from functioning properly. Great care should be taken when making changes to a
Windows registry. Registry modifications should only be carried-out by persons
experienced in the use of the registry editor application. It is recommended
that a complete backup of the registry and workstation be made prior to making
any registry changes.3. Navigate
to HKLM|Software|Symantec|Backup Exec For Windows|Backup
Exec|Engine|Domino.
4. On the Right Hand Side change the value of
Enable Change Journal and
Enable Notes Database Filtering to 0
(Default Value is 1). (
Refer to Figure 2).
Figure 2.
5. Start all the Backup Exec Services on the Media Server AND the Backup
Exec Remote Agent for Windows Servers service on the remote Lotus Domino
Server.
Run another Backup of Domino
Databases to confirm that issue is resolved.
SCENARIO 2: Only some of all the NSF Files are
skipped.In this scenario, check the
Integrity and
Consistency of the NSF Files being skipped which may require assistance
from Domino Support and ensure that they are in a consistent state before
backup.
If backups continue to fail with the above error even after
following the steps mentioned in the two scenarios above, contact Symantec
