Best practices for Backup Exec 12.5 Continuous Protection Server

The following best practices help you to use snapshots with CPS:

• Use a separate, dedicated hard drive for Shadow Copies. This practice helps to ensure that snapshots are not lost due to activity on the hard drive where the snapshot resides.

• Use Backup Exec for Windows Servers to back up the CPS Shadow Copy Components to tape regularly. This practice preserves the data in the current CPS snapshots.

• Adjust the CPS snapshot schedule to best use the disk resources.

The following best practices help you to use Backup Exec for Windows Servers to back up CPS Agent data:

• Ensure that all CPS backup operations are complete before you back up the CPS Agent data with Backup Exec. This practice helps you avoid failed jobs.

• Do not schedule CPS to create snapshots while you back up the CPS Agent data with Backup Exec.

• Configure memory usage for applications instead of for the default system cache.
