Best practices include tips and recommendations to help you use Symantec Backup Exec NDMP Option (NDMP Option) effectively. For more information about the NDMP Option, see the Backup Exec for Windows Servers Administrator’s Guide.

The following best practice helps you use the NDMP Option effectively:

Match the port number that Backup Exec uses to the port number that the filer's NDMP service uses when you add an NDMP device.
Use the port number that is specified in the media server's \etc\services file as the port number that you use in Backup Exec.
If you use software encryption for a backup job or a duplicate job, do not mix NDMP and non-NDMP resources in the same job. Software encryption is not supported for NDMP resources. Therefore, if you include NDMP resources in a job that is software-encrypted, the status of the job is “Failed”.
