Best practices include tips and recommendations to help you use Symantec Backup Exec for Windows Servers more effectively. For more information about Backup Exec's DB2 Agent, see the Backup Exec for Windows Servers Administrator's Guide.
The following best practices can help ensure the effective operation of the DB2 Agent:
Configure the DB2 Agent in the Remote Agent Utility on the DB2 Server. When you are finished configuring it, you can move to the Backup Exec media server to add the DB2 server and set its authentication credentials.
Remember that the authentication credentials on the DB2 server and the media server must match exactly. If the credentials do not match, you receive an error when you run a backup job or a restore job.
Complete the information on the Publishing tab in the Remote Agent Utility to add a DB2 server to your Favorite Resources. The Favorite Resources section of your media server's backup selection tree makes it easy to quickly find resources when you create jobs.
Ensure that you have enough backup devices available for multiple data streams. You must have one backup device for each backup job. If you enable archive logging, you must have an additional device for the archive log.
Create different job templates for the database and archive log backups. Different templates let you specify different destination devices and settings.
Use either the full computer name or IP address for all DB2 jobs, whether you initiate them from the server or the database. You select to use full computer names or IP addresses on the Database Access tab in the Remote Agent Utility. Using either full computer names or IP addresses ensures that all jobs are listed consistently in Backup Exec, which makes them easier to find.
Do not back up DB2 data to devices that are attached to a computer on which the Remote Media Agent for Linux Servers is installed.
