Is backing up with Backup Exec System Recovery over a VPN connection supported?

Details:
Due to latency issues, backing up over a VPN connection to a remote location is not supported by Backup Exec System Recovery. Starting with version 8.x however, the Offsite Copy feature that is part of the backup job does support copying the image files up to two remote locations via VPN connections after the image files have been saved to a local destination.
