"Backup Exec cannot find the MSXML folder" error message occurs during the local (silent) installation of the Backup Exec 12 Remote Agent for Windows Servers (RAWS)

Exact Error Message
Backup Exec cannot find the MSXML folder.Copy the MSXML folder from the WINNT\INSTALL directory on the Backup Exec installation CD to the folder that contains the Remote Agent (RAWS) or SAP folder. If Backup Exec is already installed, copy the MSXML folder from Symantec\Backup Exec\Agents.

Details:

"Backup Exec cannot find the MSXML folder"  error message is received during the local installation of the Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Servers in Backup Exec 12.0 (Figure 1)

Figure 1

The above error message generally comes up when a local installation of the remote agent is being attempted without copying the  MSXML folder from the <drive letter>\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec folder to the remote server.

The preferred method of performing a local install of the Backup Exec (tm) Remote Agent for Windows Servers (RAWS) or the  Advanced Open File Option (AOFO) on a remote server, is to copy the Remote Agent installation folder RANT32/RAWS32 (in 11d  and 12.0) from the media server to the remote server, and then run one of the pre-configured setup command files (setupaa.cmd or  setupaofo.cmd) from the remote server's command prompt.

For more details on performing a local installation of the Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Servers or the Advanced Open  File Option, refer to the following article:

How to perform a local installation of the Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Servers or the Advanced Open File Option
http://support.veritas.com/docs/258982

Resolution 1:

Copy the MSXML folder along with the RAWS 32 folder from the <drive letter>\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec folder to the remote server during the local installation of the Remote Agent and then run one of the pre-configured setup command files  (setupaa.cmd or setupaofo.cmd) from the remote server's command prompt.  For Example, if the MSXML folder and the RAWS32 folder has been copied to the root of the 'C' drive on the remote server, then the necessary setup command file (setupaa.cmd or setupaofo.cmd)  needs to be run from the remote server's command prompt after changing the directory to 'C' drive as shown in the image below. (Figure 2)

Figure 2

Resolution 2:

a) Copy the entire contents of the RAWS32 folder in to the MSXML folder which has already been copied across to the remote server during the local installation of the Remote Agent.

b) Run one of the pre-configured setup command files (setupaa.cmd or setupaofo.cmd) from the remote server's command prompt.

Please note: The installation of the Remote Agent might take some more time than expected if the remote server does not have  MSXML 6.0 already installed. This is because if MSXML 6.0 is not found on the remote server, Backup Exec installs it during the installation of the Remote Agent in Backup Exec 12.x.
