Attempting to back up an Exchange 2007 Information Store from a 32-bit media server fails.

Exact Error Message
The job log returns "0xe0008488 - Access is denied on \\<servername>\Microsoft Information Store\First Storage Group" for each storage group being backed up. Attempting to open the Exchange database file returns "-514 The version of the log file is not compatible with the ESE version"

Details:
First, per tech note 289970 (  http://support.veritas.com/docs/289970 ), the latest MAPI/CDO Management Tools are installed on both the media server and the Exchange 2007 server, and Exchange 2007 has been updated with Service Pack 1. In this scenario and as of March 2008 (subject to change by Microsoft), the following versions of ESE.DLL on the Exchange 2007 server and on the media server will be found:

Exchange server: 8.1.240.5
Media server: 8.0.685.24

Although Exchange 2007 is installed on a 64-bit operating system, Service Pack 1 exists in a 32-bit version as well. It will be necessary to download and install the 32-bit version of Exchange 2007 Service Pack 1 and install on the media server.

On the page this link leads to, find the E2K7SP1EN32.exe download button near the bottom of the page. Download and install the 32-bit Service Pack 1 on the media server, reboot and rerun the backup.

Note:
"Ensure level of ESE.dll is same on Exchange 2007 server and Media Server. If you install any updates related to Exchange 2007 then ensure that Management tools on Media Server are also updated with the same update."
