Exchange Granular Recovery Technology (GRT) backup to tape does not display the mailboxes in the restore selections for users that reside in a domain other than the Exchange server(s) domain.
Details:
Mailboxes from a domain other than the Exchange server(s)
domain are not visible in restore selections when the backup is performed to
tape using Granular Restore Technology (GRT) option. If the same backup is run
to Backup to Disk folder (B2D), all users are visible for restore. Additionally,
if the original backup job is duplicated from tape to B2D, all of the mailboxes
from the parent and child domains are visible.
This issue has been
observed with Exchange 2000, 2003 and
2007.
Workarounds:
- Backup
directly to Backup to Disk folder.
- A
Duplicate job can be run from tape to Backup to Disk folder to restore an
individual item if needed.
- This
issue does not occur in Backup Exec for Windows Servers version 2010 if a
VSS backup is performed. Exchange 2007 and 2010 will run VSS backups by default.
Exchange 2003 will need to run a backup with AOFO selected for VSS to be
used.
