SQL and/or Exchange transaction logs do not get truncated by VSS following a successful backup in Backup Exec System Recovery 6.x (BESR).
Details:
The SQL and Exchange transaction logs may not get
truncated even after a successful backup in BESR 6.x when the logs are being
stored on a Net Appliance device or other such device that has its own version
of VSS. BESR uses the Microsoft Windows version of VSS to send the code to
shut down the database. If the Net Appliance device has its own version of
VSS it will reject the VSS call from Microsoft, preventing the transaction logs
from getting truncated.
Run the following command to determine the
version of VSS running on the Net Appliance server:
vssadmin list
providers > c:\vsswriters.txt
This command will provide a list of
all VSS providers on the
system.
Workaround:
Store the transaction logs
on a Net Appliance device or other such device that does not have its own
version of VSS.
Resolution:
Upgrade the current
installation to BESR 7.0 as this issue has been fixed in BESR 7.0 and later.
