Backup Exec 11d and 12.0 for Windows Servers: Server initiated backup of DB2 databases complete successfully with a zero byte count.
Details:
After running a server initiated backup of a DB2
database, it is found that the job completed successfully with a zero-byte
count. While there is no indication of a failure anywhere in the job log, the
following information is found:
#
Backup script for database DB2
'C:\Program'
is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch
file.
How to determine if affected:
The issue
outlined in this article only occurs if all of the following conditions are
true:
- Backup
Exec 11d or 12.0 for Windows Servers is installed
- The
registry entry for the DB2 instances install path has been modified on the DB2
servers such that it uses the non-default long name format.
- Server
initiated backups of DB2 databases are being
performed
Determining
Your Product Version:
The installed
version of Backup Exec can be verified by selecting the "About Backup Exec"
option from the Help menu.
Explanation of the issue:
The Backup Exec
Remote Agent queries the following value in the registry for the path to the DB2
executable
files:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IBM\DB2\PROFILES\DB2\DB2INSTPROF
DB2INSTPROF
is a string value containing the path to the DB2 EXE files. If this path
contains spaces then the remote agent is not able to locate the DB2 EXE
files.
Workaround Information:
Please perform either
of the workarounds listed below to prevent the issue outlined in this
article:
1. Within the
Registry, edit the DB2INSTPROF value with the path that obeys the 8.3 short file
name convention.
For example, if
the value of the key is "C:\Program Files\IBM\SQLLIB" then it should be changed
to "C:\Program~1\IBM\SQLLIB"
Note: After
this change is made, it should be verified that there are no adverse effects for
any 3rd party DB2 applications.
2. Run DBA
initiated backups.
Permanent

mentioned issue has been fixed by a way of a hotfix in Backup Exec for Windows
