Symantec Indepth (tm) for Sybase 7.5.1 - Bundle Patch BU_SY_751_006
Details:
This bundle
patch is the Symantec Indepth for Sybase version 7.5.1 Maintenance and Platform
Support Pack, September 2007 release. It contains the following patches:
- SY_SYFP_751_004
- SY_SYCOL_751_005
- SY_INFP_751_006_STAGING
The
enhancements and all fixed issues have been described in the bundle patch
release information document included in the downloaded bundle patch ZIP
file.
The following issues are fixed in Indepth for
Sybase:
- Incident
1044214 - Two stored procedures with same object ID from two different databases
are correlated to the same text.
- Incident
1087281 - There is an error in the Sybase Explain process which takes a lot of
time because it goes over all the batches in the Performance Warehouse instead
of using the last explain date.
- Incident
1073821 - There is a bug in the Explain Statement process when identifying a
batch with a subquery in union. An "invalid cast
specification" error message appears in the user interface and in
the Explain Statements log file.
- Incident
1048901 - The Objects workspace reports "[ODBC
Sybase Wire Protocol driver][SQL Server] The column 'd' does not match with a
table name or alias name used in the query" while associating to the
database in ASE version 11.9.2.
- Incident
1095653 - The Current workspace and Activity workspace statements section
contain a lot of "[CMD] could not locate statement
[Reason]" statements.
- Incident
1103328 - When drilling in the objects workspace the following error is
reported: [DataDirect][ODBC Sybase Wire Protocol
driver][SQL Server]Attempt to insert duplicate key row in object
'#loctab______00000270012761148' with unique index '_loctab_640587201'
SQLCODE=2601.
Requirements
Before
applying this patch, you must apply the
IN_INFP_751_007
(
http://support.veritas.com/docs/290432
) patch. If you have not yet applied the
IN_INFP_751_007 patch, abort the
current installation, apply the
IN_INFP_751_007 patch and then re-apply
this patch. To check whether the
IN_INFP_751_007 patch is installed on
your system, go to
AdminPoint>Patches and verify that the
IN_INFP_751_007 patch is installed on your Symantec i
3
FocalPoint server.
Installation
recommendation
In cases where an installation of Symantec i3 does not yet
include the installation of the Indepth for Sybase product framework
(FocalPoint), it is highly recommended to install this patch before the
installation of the product. Doing so will ensure that Indepth for Sybase
framework and Collector agents work with the latest patch update.
Installation
directive
When you apply the version 7.5.1 bundle patch
BU_I3_750_001 on a server, any relevant version 7.5.1 MP bundle patch or
patch (for example BU_OR_751_015) that was previously applied to that
server should be re-applied to that server after you complete the version 7.5.1
bundle patch installation.
The following is an example scenario:
1.
You have installed a Symantec i3 version 7.5.0 server with a .NET
Collector agent.
2. You have applied the version 7.5.1 bundle patch
BU_I3_750_001 to the server. The server version is now version
7.5.1.
3. You have installed the Indepth for Microsoft .NET version 7.5.1
MP bundle Patch BU_DN_751_003. The server version that is shown is still
version 7.5.1.
4. Let us assume that the MP2 bundle patch has not been
installed on Indepth for Oracle. You install the Indepth for Oracle FocalPoint
on the server. Because the MP2 bundle patch for this product has not been
applied, it does not fall under the staging process, the server version is now
version 7.5.0.
5. You now need to re-apply version 7.5.1 bundle patch
BU_I3_750_001. After applying the version 7.5.1 bundle patch, the server
version is version 7.5.1.
6. At this stage you must reapply the Indepth
for Microsoft .NET bundle patch BU_DN_751_003 to bring your server to the
same state as it was before you applied the version 7.5.1 bundle patch
BU_I3_750_001 in the previous step.
Note: It is also
recommended to install the latest Indepth for Oracle bundle patch currently
BU_OR_751_015.
Obsolete
This
patch is a cumulative patch for Indepth for Sybase and contains all enhancements
and problem fixes that were previously released in bundle patch
BU_SY_751_003
(
http://support.veritas.com/docs/290511
), therefore making that bundle patch
obsolete.
Bundle patch BU_SY_751_003 contains the
following enhancements:
- Enhanced
performance of the loading process using the new stmtDelta mechanism.
- Scalability
for the Space Utilization process.
- Ability
to enable\disable the Explain process according to the Sybase trace flag status.
3605 is a flag which tells Sybase to write messages to the Sybase log. As the
Explain Statements process generates lots of messages, when this flag is on, the
log fills up the customer's Sybase log.
- If
you want to run the Explain Statements process even though the flag is on, a new
registry key can be
added.
Bundle patch BU_SY_751_003 fixes the following
issue in the Collector:
- Incident
1017588: The pssy_pcs.exe file generates an overflow error because the uid (User
ID) that is selected from sysprocesses is defined as short, and its actual type
is int.
Bundle patch BU_SY_751_003 fixes the following
issues in the Tuner:
- Incident
1017587: Error message: "... must declare variable @@unicharsize" when you drill
down on a Sybase instance to the Table Entity and the Sybase version number is
lower than
12.5.
Error
message "... invalid column crdate" when you associate to an Index Entity and
the Sybase version is 12.0 and lower.
Error message
"... Database ... Cannot be opened. An earlier attempt at recovery marked it
'suspect' ..." when you associate to databases.
- Incident
813958: A few bugs were found in the Explain Statements
process:
The
object screen does not display unused indexes.
Additional details:
In Indepth for Sybase, the
Explain process does not fill the operator type when the accessplan contains the
message "Positioning at end of table".
The Explain process encounters
an endless loop.
Additional details:
Pssy_tuner.exe encounters an
endless loop when trying to Explain a statement that contains a sub query and
union. There is a bug in the logic when opening new union degree.
Pssy_tuner.exe encounters an
endless loop when trying to Explain a statement that contains sub queries with
the same number in the same step (we generate a workaround to avoid endless loop
and not a solution to this bug).
Explain fails because of a
parsing error.
Additional details:
Explain fails because the
message 'Executed in parallel.' in current state '42' is not recognized by the
parser.
Explain fails with the following
SQL error:
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server
Driver] Invalid character value for cast specification.
Additional details:
The Explain process fails during
parsing of an Explain output that contains a Dynamic index with I/O of data
pages.
Bundle patch BU_SY_751_003 fixes the following
issue in the FocalPoint:
- Incident
1035936: High 'Latch Waits' are
reported.
Notes
- It
is highly recommended to install the patch on all the Symantec i3
servers. If you only want to install it on some of the servers, you must make
sure that the first installation of this Bundle Patch includes all servers that
contain Symantec i3 FocalPoint agents or any of the other product
FocalPoint agents.
- The
Bundle Patch mechanism will display all Pre- and Post-Patch requirements for all
individual patches that are part of the Symantec Indepth for Sybase version
7.5.1 BU_SY_751_006 patch and are relevant to the installed environment.
It is highly recommended that you will use View in Browser at this stage, and
save the action items to a file for later reference, as some of these action
items are dynamically calculated and displayed. The list of these Pre- and
Post-action items is also saved in the following log file on the Symantec
i3 FocalPoint
server:
UNIX:
<i3_root>/logs/infra.bundle.patch.action.items.log
Windows:
<i3_root>\logs\infra.bundle.patch.action.items.log
- Do
not install the patches in the bundle separately. If you do so, this may lead to
unexpected results.
