How to use a LUN greater than 2TB on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.0 Update 3 with Volume Manager 5.0
Details:
A new feature in Volume Manager 5.0 is the support of LUNs
greater than 2TB. To use a LUN that is greater than 2TB, the LUN must be created
with a 512 byte sector size and a GUID Partition Table (GPT) partition needs to
be created on the LUN using the parted utility.
NOTE: The
fdisk utility is not capable of making partitions greater than
2TB.
With the LUN created using the above parameters, Volume Manager will
initialize the it to the full capacity. It is important to note that Volume
Manager does not support the Cross-platform Data Sharing (CDS) compatibility
format, the default format for initializing LUNs with Volume Manager 4.0 and
above, for LUNs greater than 2TB. Volume Manager only supports
LUNs greater than 2TB using the Simple or Sliced format.
For more
information about the CDS compatibility format, please refer to the Related
Documents section below.
Below is an example of how to initialize a LUN
in the Simple and Sliced format:
#
/etc/vx/bin/vxdisksetup -i sd# format=simple
#
/etc/vx/bin/vxdisksetup -i sd# format=sliced
For more information about changing the default format
when initializing disks, and changing the default of type of disk group to
non-CDS in Volume Manager, please refer to the Related Documents section below.
