Backup Exec Remote Intelligent Disaster Recovery (RIDR) does not recover Microsoft SQL 2005 Master or Model databases automatically.
Details:
When performing Remote Intelligent Disaster Recovery (RIDR), Backup Exec will not recover the master/model databases of SQL 2005 automatically.
The Backup Exec Agent for Microsoft SQL Server option must be installed on the media server in order to perform a complete SQL Server database recovery.
After using IDR to recover the Windows server, IDR automatically replaces the damaged master and model databases with copies of the master and model databases. After SQL is restarted, the latest master database backup and all other system databases are restored.
All user databases must also be restored after completing the IDR Recovery.
Workaround:
Restore the master/model SQL databases manually:
1. Copy/rename $4IDR files of master/model to MDF/LDF respectively.
2. Start the SQLServer service.
3. Restore the master/model backups manually
Permanent Fix:
This issue has been resolved in Hotfix 37 for Backup Exec 10.1.5629
