A Backup Exec for Windows Servers Synthetic Incremental Backup Job may back up folders that were not changed.

Details:
Under the following circumstances, a Synthetic Incremental Backup job might back up folders that were not changed:
1. After removing a folder.
Example: Assume there are three folders, "aaa1", "AAA2" and "AAA3."
The folder "aaa1" would be enumerated as the last folder by Backup Exec because the first character of the name, "a" (code 0x61), has a bigger code than "A" (code 0x41).
If the folder "aaa1" is deleted before a Synthetic Incremental Backup job is run, other folders "AAA2" and "AAA3" would be backed up.
2. After adding a folder.
Example: Assume there are two folders, "AAA2" and "AAA3."
If the folder "aaa1" is added before a Synthetic Incremental Backup job is run, the other folders "AAA2" and "AAA3" would be backed up.

This issue has been resolved by applying the Hot Fix for the appropriate version listed in the Related Documents section of this article.
