Backup Exec 10.0 for Windows Servers revision 5520

What issues does this service pack resolve?
Service Pack 2 contains a collection of hot fixes that resolve many issues in Backup Exec 10.0 for Windows Servers revision 5520. Service packs are cumulative, applying service pack 2 to the base install of Backup Exec 10.0 revision 5520 installs all hot fixes included in Service Pack 1 as well as those unique to Service Pack 2. For a complete listing of issues resolved in this service pack, please reference the supplemental materials at the end of this Tech Note.

Which files does this hot fix replace?
After installing the hot fix, the attributes of the installed files will change as indicated in the tables below. Note that the date and time are stored in Universal Time. When looking at the date and time of the file(s) on the server where the hot fix was installed, they will be converted to local time. Use the Date and Time tool provided by Windows to determine the difference between universal time and local time.

How to install Service Pack 2
Before installing this service pack, please refer to the section titled "Special Installation Instructions." After reviewing the "Special Installation Instructions," follow the steps listed under the section titled "Installation Procedures" to install the service pack. Several issues addressed in this service pack also require additional post-installation steps. Please refer to the section titled "Issues requiring post installation steps" as well as the Related Documents links for further instruction.

Special Installation Instructions
This section contains additional installation instructions for installing Service Pack 2.

Remote Agent for Windows Servers (RAWS) - 32 bit
After installing Service Pack 2 to the Backup Exec 10.0 media server, install the Remote Agent for Windows Servers (RAWS) to all of the remote computers protected by Backup Exec by following the Remote Agent for Windows Servers installation procedure in the Backup Exec Administrator's Guide.

Remote Agent for Windows Servers (RAWS) - 64 bit
After installing Service Pack 2 to the Backup Exec 10.0 media server, Backup Exec 10.0 for Windows Servers revision 5520 Hot fix 2 "Extended 64-bit Remote Agent for Windows Servers" must also be installed. For more information about Hot fix 2, please reference the Related Documents section at the end of this Tech Note.

Microsoft Cluster
Before installing the Service Pack to Backup Exec 10.0 media servers on each node of a Microsoft Cluster, stop the Backup Exec services using "Cluster Administrator."

Central Administration Servers
Before installing the service pack on a Backup Exec 10.0 Central Administration Server (CAS), communication must be disabled between the CAS and all Managed Media Servers (MMS).
1. Open the Backup Exec User Interface
2. Click Media Servers
3. Right-click on each MMS and clear the Communication Enabled check box

After the service pack is installed, enable communication between the CAS and all MMSs.
1. Open the Backup Exec User Interface
2. Click Media Servers
3. Right-click on each MMS and select the Communication Enabled check box

Installation Procedures
To install the service pack on a media server, download the service pack. A prompt will appear asking whether to Open or Save the download. Perform either of the following:
Select Open to automatically patch the installation of Backup Exec 10.0.
- or -
Select Save to save the download to the computer in order to install the hot fix later.

To install the service pack on a server running the Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Servers, perform one of the following:
1. After installing the service pack to the media server, push install the Remote Agent from the Tools\Install Remote Agents menu option in Backup Exec
OR
2. Copy the installation files to the remote server from the path C:\Program Files\Veritas\Backup Exec\Agents\RANT32 then from a command prompt on the remote server change directories to the path the files were copied to and run setupaa.cmd

Uninstalling Service Pack 2
Note: Once installed, the Backup Exec service pack cannot be uninstalled.
