10.1.5629 - Hotfix 21 - Remote Agent for Linux/UNIX Servers (RALUS) update - March 2006 Security update

To which versions of VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) can this hotfix be applied?

This update is designed for the Remote Agent for Linux/UNIX Servers that is used by:

Backup Exec 10.1 (10d) for Windows Server revision 5629
Backup Exec 9.2 for Netware Servers


What issue does this hotfix resolve?

This update resolves the following issue:

Which files are in this update?

After installing the update, the following files should be updated on the Linux/UNIX server:

beremote
libndmpcomm.so


How to install this update:

Note:  Linux/UNIX server commands are case sensitive.  Please type the commands below as you see them.

This update must be applied to all Remote Agent for Linux/UNIX servers that are being backed up by a Backup Exec 10.1 (10d) for Windows Servers (revision 5629) or a Backup Exec 9.2 for Netware Servers media server.  

1. Download the update, save it and extract the two files from the zipped file.

2. Copy over the appropriate tar file to the Linux/Unix machine depending on the OS

3. Stop the RALUS agent with the following command:
/etc/init.d/VRTSralus.init stop

4. Depending on the operating system Installed, extract the file:

For Linux - Enter
tar -xvf ralus5629HF21-Linux.tar

For Sun - Enter
tar -xvf ralus5629HF21-SunOs.tar

5. Run
./installraluspatch.sh

Note: After the installation of this update, it is important to run a full backup of each Linux/UNIX system for recovery purposes.


How to verify this hotfix has been installed:

1.  Open a Terminal Window on the Linux/UNIX computer

2.  Change to the "/opt/VRTSralus/bin" directory

3.  Run
strings beremote|grep Version

The phrase 'VERITAS_Backup_Exec_File_Version=10.1.5629.21' should be listed.


Uninstalling this hotfix

Note:  Once installed, this hotfix cannot be uninstalled.
