VERITAS Enabled Arrays - Array Support Library and Array Policy Module for IBM TotalStorage DS4000 (FAStT) Series arrays on VERITAS Volume Manager (tm) 4.0 MP1 and later for AIX

This TechFile provides information about the Array Support Library (ASL) and Array Policy Module (APM) for IBM DS4100, 4300, 4400, 4500, and 4800 storage arrays (formerly known as FAStT Family Storage Servers) on VERITAS Volume Manager 4.0 MP1 and later for AIX.

Change Log: The AIX 5.2 Maintenance Level ML06 or ML07 ASL/APM released in TechFile 278460 stopped claiming IBM DS4000 Series devices. A new ASL/APM that fixes this problem is being released with this TechFile.

Array Settings: AVT (Auto Volume Transfer) should be disabled, and the Host Type should be set to AIX.

Notes:
1. AIX uses the RDAC driver for FAStT arrays for multipathing to connected storage. VERITAS Storage Foundation coexists with the RDAC driver on AIX, and for Storage Foundation to claim the FAStT devices, the RDAC driver must be installed on the machine. If the RDAC is uninstalled from the machine, Storage Foundation will not be able to claim FAStT array devices.
2. AVT mode should be disabled for the ASL to properly claim devices. The DS4000 series devices are not supported on AIX with AVT mode enabled.

Prerequisites:
1. The minimum level of RDAC required to install this package is 5.2.0.51 for AIX 5.2, and 5.3.0.10 for AIX 5.3. Contact IBM P Series Support for appropriate maintenance level patches to ensure the supported level of RDAC.
AIX 5.2 => devices.fcp.disk.rte 5.2.0.51 C F FC SCSI CD-ROM, Disk
AIX 5.3 => devices.fcp.disk.rte 5.3.0.10 C F FC SCSI CD-ROM, Disk
2. For AIX 5.2, APAR IY65717 is required, and for AIX 5.3, APAR IY65459 is required. See TechNote 269928 for other required APARs (see the Related Documents sections below)

At the bottom of this TechFile, click on Download Now to download the ASL and APM package VRTSIBM-DS4xxx_aix_vm4.0MP1_281699.tar.Z.
Download the file into the /tmp directory
Before adding any ASL/APM package, ensure VERITAS Volume Manager is installed and enabled:
# vxdctl mode
mode: enabled
To install the APM package:
# cd /tmp
# zcat VRTSIBM-DS4xxx_aix_vm4.0MP1_281699.tar.Z | tar xvf -
# cd fast_rdac
# installp -acX -d ./VRTSFAStT_RDACapm.bff VRTSFAStT_RDACapm
Install the ASL package:
# installp -acX -d ./SMibmasl.bff SMibmasl
After the packages are installed, you must execute the vxdctl enable command to claim the disk array as a FAStT array:
# vxdctl enable
After running vxdctl enable, you should see the dmpFAStT_RDAC APM module in the output of the vxdmpadm listapm command:
# vxdmpadm listapm all | grep -i FAStT_RDAC
dmpFAStT_RDAC dmpFAStT_RDAC 1 A/A-FAStT Active
After executing vxdctl enable, verify the output of the vxddladm listsupport command:
$ vxddladm listsupport libname=libibmasl.so
