To which versions of Symantec Backup Exec Continuous
Protections Server (tm) can this Service Pack be applied?
This Service Pack can only be
applied to the following versions of Backup Exec Continuous Protection
Servers:
- Backup
Exec Continuous Protection Server
10.1.325.6301
Note: This service pack requires
an existing installation of Backup Exec Continuous Protection Server 10d and is
not a self-contained version of the CPS software. CPS 10d SP1 includes all
customer and internally initiated fixes since the initial product release. There
is no need to remove any previous updates of drop-on files before installing
SP1.
What issue does this Service Pack
resolve?
This Service Pack resolves
the following issues:
- In
rare cases, the Backup Exec Continuous Protection Agent service ( RxService)
could crash during synchronization or when creating a snapshot when the previous
snapshot had been deleted by an external source.
- Synchronization
failures that could occur under rare circumstances.
- A
restore job would have to be deleted if the Business Server was restarted before
the job had completed.
- A
rapid succession of network outages could cause dynamic (continuous) protection
to stop, requiring the job to be restarted.
- Backup
Exec Retrieve now displays backup data originating in a hidden folder share and
in a volume level share.
- CPS
restore jobs can now be stopped or canceled when running.
This Service Packs adds the
following functionality:
- Use
the Services Manager utility to set the Windows security credentials for CPS
services on each computer in your network neighborhood and change the CPS
security mode.
- Use
the SetIntegratedLogin utility to enable integrated login mode for your CPS
configuration
databases.
How to install this Service
Pack
Installation on an existing
CPS 10d server:
Symantec recommends that you
backup your systems before proceeding.
1. Close Backup Exec Continuous
Protection Server if open.
2. Download CPS 10d SP1 from the
link at the bottom of this TechFile.
3. At each system running Backup
Exec Continuous Protection Server, starting with the computer hosting the Backup
Exec Continuous Protection Continuous Management Service (CMS), run
CPS10dSP1.msp (this is the default name of Service Pack 1 when it is downloaded
from the "Download Now" link).
4. Follow the instructions to
completion in the installation wizard.
5. Even if a prompt requesting a
reboot does not appear in the display, a reboot is required.
6. If the server being patch has
the Admin console installed, the patch should be copied into the console deploy
installation set so it will be included in any subsequent remote deployments.
The steps are:
a) Open a file explorer and
locate the deploy set (usually C:\Program Files\VERITAS\Continuous Protection
Server\Install.
b) Copy the patch file
CPS10dSP1.msp into the deployment directory.
c) Rename the patch file
vre.msp.
Installation as part of a new
CPS 10d server; installation in this manner will require only 1 reboot instead
of 2 reboots:
Symantec recommends that you
backup your systems before proceeding.
1. Rename the patch file
(CPS10DSP1.MSP) to VRE.MSP.
2. Place the file in the Backup
Exec Continuous Protection Server installation source directory; the folder
where SETUP.EXE for Backup Exec Continuous Protection Server is
located.
3. Run SETUP.EXE on the machine
and the installer will automatically install the patch while doing the regular
installation in one step.
