Unable to perform IDR to a remote Windows XP Workstation due to the Backup Exec Media Server being unable to connect to the remote Windows XP Workstation.
Details:
This can occur if the Windows XP CD used to create the IDR
CD is a Windows XP Service Pack 2 integrated CD.
This issue has been
resolved in Backup Exec 10d (10.1.5629) with the application of hotfix 8, see
the Related Documents section below.
To workaround the issue in Backup
Exec 9.1 follow the steps as outlined below.
Windows XP Service Pack 2
introduced the Windows Firewall which restricts network communication.
Additional steps will have to be completed to disable the Windows
Firewall which will allow remote IDR to complete properly and these steps should
be completed right before attempting to connect to the Backup Exec Media Server.
If a custom network card driver must be installed, then a reboot will be
required in order for the NIC driver to load. If this step is necessary then the
steps to disable the Windows Firewall should be followed after the
reboot.
At the Connect to Media Server window (Figure 1) select the F1
key on the keyboard to open a command prompt window.
Figure
1
In the
command prompt window complete the following commands as seen below in Figure
2.
- sc
config SharedAccess depend= Netman
- net
start SharedAccess
- net
stop SharedAccess
Note: In the first command
there is a space between "depend=" and "Netman", otherwise the command will
fail.
Figure
2
The goal
of the commands are to first set the dependency so the Windows Firewall service
can be managed, second start the Windows Firewall service and finally to stop
the Windows Firewall service.
After the Windows Firewall service has been
stopped return to the Connect to Media Server window and resume IDR.
