Symantec Enterprise Vault (tm) for Microsoft Exchange and Hosting Environments
Details:
This document covers Internet Service Provider (ISP) /
Hosting customer deployments of complimentary products with Enterprise
Vault.
Background and Support
ISPs and Hosting environments are
highly specialized and it is advised that Symantec Professional Services be
involved to create a Solution Design for your implementation. Additionally, ISP
and Hosting customers under tight service level agreements (SLAs) with their
customers should strongly consider purchasing Business Critical Support, to
ensure optimal operations of their Enterprise Vault
solution.
Supported Environments
Enterprise Vault is supported
in hosting environments with the following Microsoft products:
- Exchange
2000/2003/2007*
- Server
2000/2003*
- ISA
2000/4/6*
- SQL2000/2005*

* Please review current Enterprise Vault "Supported
Products list" (found below, in the Related Documents section) for required
patch levels of the above products that are approved.
Network
Requirements
ISP/Hosting
customers typically support end user environments utilizing Microsoft Outlook
clients communicating at the network level to their hosted (or remote) Exchange,
and ultimately hosted Enterprise Vault server. These connections may be native
via TCP/IP or over Microsoft Outlook Web Access back-end servers (OWA/IIS).
ISP/Hosting customers must provide customer network connectivity for Active
Directory permissions for user authentication and administration in all domains
archived with Enterprise Vault. Additionally, TCP/IP network connectivity and
working domain name service (DNS) servers are required to ensure connectivity
exists. Please refer to the Appendix in the Installing Enterprise Vault guide
for a list of these ports. Customer and Managed Service Providers (MSP) firewall
configurations are not covered in this TechNote. Please refer to the Enterprise
Vault Installation and Configuration guide for assistance with TCP/IP network
ports that are used.
Hardware
Deployment
Hosting
customer hardware deployment scenarios as to number of users per server are
atypical as those of large enterprise customers thus there is little difference
to a large Enterprise Vault customer. It is up to the Hosting customer to
implement one of the following approved scenarios with Enterprise Vault, as they
are tested and supported configurations.
The following
three deployments are recommended and supported at this time by Symantec as Best
Practises for Microsoft Exchange Hosting with Enterprise Vault (EV):
