Mapped network drives cannot be backed up or restored with Backup Exec for Windows Servers.

Details:
Note that mapped drives cannot be backed up using Backup Exec (tm). Backup Exec does not recognize the mapped drive.

Mapped drives are not shown in the backup selection list. To back up the shared folder on the remote system, the selection has to be made through either Remote selections | Microsoft Windows Network or User defined selections (Figure 1). (See Related Documents for more information.)

Remote Agent for Windows Servers (RAWS) is required to be installed on the remote system and the serial number for the remote agent should be registered on the Backup Exec server. The Remote Agent for Windows Servers (RAWS) license is not required for workstation operating systems (e.g. Windows 98, NT Workstation, Windows 2000 Professional etc.), however the component needs to be installed on the workstation.

However, one Remote Agent license is required for each remote server that needs to be protected. If the Remote Agent license is not installed, resources on the remote servers will appear grayed out and will not be available for backup.

Remote Agent not only exposes all the Windows NT/2000 features for Backup Exec to back it up, but also increases throughput during the backup.
