AOFO: Initialization failure on: "C:". Advanced Open File Option used: Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS). Snapshot provider error (0xE0008524): Unable to initialize the snapshot because the Advanced Open File Option (AOFO) is not installed on the target computer.
Details:
While doing an AOFO backup, the following error is
encountered.
AOFO: Initialization failure on: "C:". Advanced Open File
Option used: Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS).
Snapshot
provider error (0xE0008524): Unable to initialize the snapshot because the
Advanced Open File Option (AOFO) is not installed on the target computer. You
must install this option, restart the computer, and then run the job
again.
Check the Windows Event Viewer for
details.
The error above occurs, even though AOFO is
installed properly on the machine, and the Remote Agent debug log shows the
following:
Error: Misc regkey not found under Engine???. Could not

AssertPrivilege( SE_SECURITY_NAME ) failed: Not all privileges referenced are
assigned to the caller.
This above
error can occur if the VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) service account has not been
granted the correct privileges (including privileges for group policies).
The account
should have Full Administrator rights on the server being backed up. Also,
the following rights may be assigned to the account through the group
policy:

Act as Part of the Operating System
2.
Backup Files and Directories
3.
Create a Token Object
4.
Logon as a service
5.
Manage Auditing and Security Log
6.
Restore Files and Directories
7.
Take ownership of files and other objects.

The
error can be due to VSP driver file corruption on affected machine.
Resolution
Follow
the Technote - 253620 in the Related documents section below to uninstall and
reinstall and the AOFO option on the machine.
Please
make sure the machine is rebooted after uninstalling the AOFO from the
machine.
