Important information regarding Backup Exec for Windows Servers and Microsoft Windows 2003 Service Packs 1 and 2
Details:
While Symantec Backup Exec (tm) for Windows Servers is compatible with Windows 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1), there are certain changes that need to be made in Windows Firewall to allow the proper functionality of Backup Exec if the firewall is enabled. Please refer to the Related Documents section at the end of this TechNote to view the various types of issues that can occur and their respective solutions.
Windows Firewall is disabled by default after applying Windows 2003 SP1. More information regarding Microsoft Windows 2003 Service Pack 1 and its functionality with other applications can be found at
http://www.microsoft.com The link above and links below will take you outside the Symantec Web site. Symantec does not control and is not responsible for information outside the Symantec Web site.
Note: Only Symantec Backup Exec 9.1 rev. 4691 and above have been certified with Windows 2003 Service Pack 1. Prior versions of Backup Exec have not been tested with Windows 2003 Service Pack 1. Backup Exec 11d and above is also certified with both Windows 2003 Service Packs 1 and 2.
Symantec recommends that the latest Windows Service Pack which has been certified be applied to the media server and remote machines to prevent backup and restore failures from occurring. Backup Exec or agents may install on a machine without the Windows Service Pack being applied, but only partial, limited support can be provided for backup, restore, or security issues unless the service pack or individual patches contained within them are applied.
"Partial Support" is a more limited level of Support Services than you would receive under "Standard Support." Partial Support is when our technical support engineer provides you with known Fixes/Patches/Workarounds, existing Maintenance Packs, or information from our technical knowledge base in response to your request for assistance. Partial Support does not include development of any new modifications (including security vulnerabilities) to your Licensed Software. Nor will we attempt to reproduce the Problem or escalate issues through management channels or to our engineering resources. Such Partial Support will be subject to the availability of resources, and we may need to limit the time we are able to spend on the Problem.
