After ejecting and reloading the magazine in a Certance Robotic Library, Backup Exec cannot communicate with the library until the hardware is power cycled.

Details:
Some robotic libraries have a lock-down feature that prevents a user from ejecting a magazine from the library, unless an unlock command is issued via the backup software (see the Related Documents section at the end of this TechNote for more information).  The display on the library will show "eject prevent" and the magazine cannot be ejected unless a force eject command is issued physically on the library.

The Eject button on a Certance Autoloader can be used in two modes: Regular and Emergency eject. When the button is pressed for less than five seconds, a Regular eject begins. The current SCSI command is completed and buffered data is written to the tape. Pending commands are terminated with Not Ready / Operator Medium Removal Request (02/5A/01) status, the cassette is returned to its slot in the magazine, and the magazine is ejected.

Note: If an unlock command is not issued on the Devices tab in Backup Exec (tm) prior to clicking the Eject button, the magazine will not eject because of the lock the that backup software has over it.

If the Eject button is held for more than five seconds, Emergency eject begins. All commands are terminated within 35 seconds, the cassette in the drive is placed in the magazine, and the magazine is ejected. If there is no cassette in the drive, magazine ejection will occur immediately. Pending commands are terminated with Not Ready / Operator Medium Removal Request (02/5A/01) status.

When an emergency eject command is issued, the loader will override Backup Exec's Control over the magazine, eject the magazine, and not allow Backup Exec to communicate with the device again until the server is shut all the way down, the loader is power cycled to an online, ready state, and the server is cold booted.

To ensure that Backup Exec does not lose communication with the tape hardware, make sure to issue the unlock/eject command on the Devices tab in Backup Exec, and to not press the Eject button on the loader's display for a period of more than four seconds.
