How to use the VxCLUS utility with VERITAS Volume Manager, VERITAS Storage Foundation (SFW) for Windows managing disks in a Microsoft Cluster Server (MSCS) environment, and with Storage Foundation for Windows High Availability (SFW-HA)
Details:
The VxCLUS utility provides a means to remove the
limitation that a Cluster dynamic disk group cannot be created on the same bus
as the Microsoft Windows System or Boot disk. It also allows disk groups to be
imported on a cluster without a majority of disks. The SANBOOT switch of
vxclus.exe has been renamed to UseSystemBus, and the option will work for
both SCSI and fibre devices. The following syntax usage is common to Volume
Manager and Storage Foundation:
- vxclus
enable -g<disk group name> : Allows the disk group to be
brought online one time with a minority of disk group members. The functionality
is disabled following a successful online of the group.
- vxclus
disable -g<disk group name> : Disables minority online if user
executes vxclus enable for the group,
and then decides not to online the group with a minority of disks.
- vxclus
cleanup : Disables minority online for all disk groups for which it
has been
enabled.
SFW 4.1 and above includes the switch -p switch. If
-p is specified, the entry made in the Windows registry is such that the
vxclus force import functionality remains enabled. This allows persistent
force imports of a cluster disk group so that this resource can always be
brought online with in the cluster. The -p switch is applicable to SFW in an
MSCS environment only.
The vxclus utility is applicable to SFW-HA to
allow the creation of a Cluster dynamic disk group on the same bus as the
Microsoft Windows System or Boot disk. To create a cluster disk group on
the same bus as the disk that contains the cluster node's system or boot disk
execute the following command in a Windows command prompt:
For Volume Manager
3.1:
vxclus enable
sanboot.
For SFW 4.1 and
above:
vxclus UseSystemBus
ON.
To reverse the vxclus
UseSystemBus ON command and remove the Registry changes that
make it possible to create a Cluster dynamic disk group that can reside on the
same bus as the cluster node's system or boot disk, use the command, execute the
following command in a Windows command
prompt:
vxclus UseSystemBus
OFF
