How to perform a command line install of Backup Exec 10.x for Windows Servers and a command line push-install of RAWS/AOFO with Backup Exec 10.x for Windows Servers
Details:
Command Line Installation of Backup Exec 10.x for
Windows Servers :
Installing Backup Exec (tm) from the command
line (also referred to as installing in Silent Mode) is fully documented in the
Backup Exec Administrator's Guide (see the Related Documents section of this
TechNote for a link to the Administrator's Guide in PDF format).
In
general, the silent installation can be performed with the following switches,
without any additional options:
The setup file is located in the
\WINNT\INSTALL\BE directory on the installation
media.
setup /TS: /USER:user /DOM:domain
/PASS:password /SNO:serial number -S
If installing without
VERITAS Update is desired, append the /NOVUPDATE: switch to the
command.
Command Line Push-Install
of RAWS/AOFO with Backup Exec 10.x for Windows Servers :
The silent mode installation,
also known as command line installation, can be used to push-install the Backup
Exec Remote Agent for Windows Servers (RAWS) and the Advanced Open File Option
(AOFO) to one or more remote computers.
To push-install the Remote
Agent or AOFO using the command line:
1. Open a Windows command
prompt
2. Change to the drive
containing the Backup Exec CD
3. Change directories to
\WINNT\INSTALL\BE as shown in Figure 1
Figure 1
4. Type one of the
following:
a. To install the Remote
Agent:
SETUP
/PUSHRAWS: /USER:<user> /DOM:domain /PASS:password /SVR:<server
name> -S
Example 1
b. To install the Advanced
Open File Option
SETUP
/PUSHRAWS: /USER:<user> /DOM:domain /PASS:password /SVR:<server
name> /AOFO: -boot -S
Example 2
5. To check if RAWS was
installed, click Start | Programs | Administrative Tools | Services, and
see if the Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Servers service is
started
6. To check if AOFO is
started, open Computer Management, and click System Tools | System
Information | Software Environment | Drivers. Click any driver listed in the
right pane, press the "V" key, then look for the driver vsp.sys,
which is the Volume Snapshot Provider Kernel Driver. This should be started
(Figure 3).
Figure 3
For the switch /SVR:
type the name of the remote computer that you want to install to. For
descriptions of the other switches, see Command Line Switches for Backup Exec
Silent Mode Installation on page 43.
Note: If the
command line switch is used without the -S switch, the Backup Exec
installation program launches with the command line parameters as defaults for
the installation options. For example, if -S had been left out in the
above example, the Backup Exec installation program launches with the user name,
domain, password, and serial number appearing on the installation dialog
boxes.
