NetWare data can only be restored to the original location through redirected restores, if a change is made to the user name or password for the VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) services account and the same change is not made for the System logon account.

Details:
When the same user account is used for the Backup Exec for Windows Servers services and the System logon account, if a change is made to the user name or password for the Backup Exec services account, the same change must also be made for the Services account and the System logon account.

Restores made prior to synchronizing the user name or password change will fail with the following:

Job Completion Status
Completed status: Failed
Final error code: a000848c HEX
Final error description: Unable to attach to one of the drives.
Final error category: Resource Errors


If the Services account and the System logon account are not updated to reflect the changes, NetWare data can only be restored to the original location through redirected restores. For more information on how to redirect a restore, see the Related Documents section of this TechNote.

To change the user name or password for the Backup Exec services, follow the instructions given below:

1. Click Start | Run, and then click Browse

2. Navigate to the Backup Exec for Windows Server installation directory. The default location is C:\Program Files\VERITAS\Backup Exec\NT\.

3. Double-click ServicesMgr.exe. The Backup Exec Services Manager dialog box will appear (Figure 1).

4. Click Services credentials, and change the service account information user name/password to match the password for all the accounts (Figure 2)

5. Stop and start the Backup Exec services

6. Open Backup Exec and select Network | Logon Accounts. Select the Backup Exec account that the services are using, and click Change password. Change the password to match the account and the services credential passwords as was previously changed (Figure 3).

If this logon account is ever deleted, the NetWare Storage Management Services (SMS) restores can only be redirected. A regular restore to the NetWare server will not be possible.

VERITAS Software has acknowledged that the above-mentioned issue is present in the current version(s) of the product(s) mentioned at the end of this article. VERITAS Software is committed to product quality and satisfied customers.

There are no plans to address this issue by way of a patch or hotfix in the current or previous versions of the software at the present time. However, the issue is currently scheduled to be addressed in the next major revision of the product. Please be sure to refer back to this document periodically as any changes to the status of the defect will be reflected here. Please note that VERITAS Software reserves the right to remove any fix from the targeted release if it does not pass quality assurance tests.
