VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) 9.1 for Windows Servers - Software Compatibility List (SCL)
Details:
Listed below are the available operating systems and
platforms specifically tested by VERITAS to be compatible with Backup Exec 9.1
for Windows Servers.
VERITAS provides best efforts to qualify Backup Exec
with as many different operating systems, database application, service packs,
hardware platforms and other applications as possible. However, due to the
number of combinations, it is not possible to test all combinations for
compatibility. If a particular service pack or version is not listed as
specifically tested by VERITAS, it may work fine, but has not been explicitly
tested by VERITAS with Backup Exec.
Please subscribe to this document
since the information in this document will be updated as necessary, and
subscribing to it will result in automatic notification of any changes to the
document. In addition, if a particular platform is not currently listed as being
supported, a request for additions to this list can be made through the VERITAS
Product Enhancement Web site:
http://enhancement.veritas.com.
Support is conditional according to the notes corresponding to the
individual platform. See the
Notes Reference section for
details.
Note: If a vendor ceases to support an operating
system, database application, service pack, hardware platforms or other
applications, then our ability to support Backup Exec operating with such
vendor's product(s) may be limited, affected, or prevented (and such third party
product(s) may cease to be part of VERITAS supported
configuration(s)).

Notes Reference:1. Citrix MetaFrame 1.8 on Windows NT
4.0 Enterprise Server and Windows 2000 has been tested for compatibility with
the release of Backup Exec 9.1 for Windows Servers. If using the Backup Exec
Intelligent Disaster Recovery option, special instructions are necessary if the
Citrix driver letters have been remapped:
http://support.veritas.com/docs/259441.
2.
Citrix MetaFrame XPs, XPa, and XPe on Windows NT 4.0 Enterprise Server and
Windows 2000 have been tested to ensure compatibility with the release of Backup
Exec 9.1 for Windows Servers. The Citrix XP platform can be used as both a
server and a client for Backup Exec 9.1 for Windows Servers. If using the Backup
Exec Intelligent Disaster Recovery option, special instructions are necessary if
the Citrix driver letters have been remapped:
http://support.veritas.com/docs/259441.
3.
The creation of boot media for the Intelligent Disaster Recovery option is not
supported if using a Windows 2000 DataCenter CD. See the following TechNote for
details:
http://support.veritas.com/docs/245908.
4.
If using the Backup Exec 9.0 Remote Agent for Windows Servers to protect a
Windows 2003 server, the use of the Remote Agent that ships with Backup Exec 9.0
for Windows Servers revision 4454 is required. In addition:
A. Exchange 2003 support
requires the installation of Backup Exec 9.0 for Windows Servers revision 4454
Hotfix 10.
B. Support for 64-bit
(Itanium-based only) Windows operating systems requires Backup Exec 9.0 for
Windows Servers revision 4454 Hotfix 4.
Windows XP Professional support
is limited to computers running Windows XP Professional that either are part of
a domain or have guest-level share access (ForceGuest) disabled. This support
requirement is due to fundamental changes in the Windows sharing model that
produce insufficient access rights needed to perform administrative data
protection tasks. See the following TechNote for details:
http://support.veritas.com/docs/241557.
6. Windows XP Home is supported in Backup Exec 9.1 for
Windows Servers. To protect a computer running Windows XP Home, the Remote Agent
for the Windows Servers agent must be installed locally to the Windows XP Home
computer (the Remote Agent for Windows Servers agent cannot be push installed to
the Windows XP Home computer).
7. Backup Exec supports backing up and
restoring only of data that is shared with the Server Message Block (SMB)/Common
Internet File System (CIFS) protocol.
8. Versions of Lotus Domino R5
prior to version 5.0.4 did not support backup of the actively filling Domino
transaction log. This severely limits recovery options of Lotus Domino R5
databases with Backup Exec Agent for Lotus Domino R5. See the Lotus Domino
Support Web site for more information:
http://www-3.ibm.com/software/lotus/support.
VERITAS recommends that Lotus Domino R5 versions 5.0.4 and later be used with
the Backup Exec Agent for Lotus Domino R5 because of this limitation.
9.
Compatible: Should work but not specifically tested by VERITAS
Software.
10. The Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) version that
Backup Exec 9.1 for Windows Servers installs as part of the Microsoft SQL Server
Desktop Engine (MSDE) 2000 installation is incompatible with a clustered version
of Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 (per Microsoft Knowledge Base articles 239473 and
820754). Backup Exec 9.1 installs MDAC 2.8. Do not install Backup Exec 9.1 for
Windows Servers on a clustered version of SQL 7.0 server.
11. When using
Backup Exec 9.1 for Windows Servers and VERITAS Storage Foundation (tm) for
Windows 4.0 on the same computer, a multiple-volume snapshot with Volume Shadow
Copy Service (VSS) is limited to non-system volumes. When a snapshot is
requested through a VSS requester, do not include the server's system volume and
the Storage Foundation for Windows volumes in the same snapshot set. A
multiple-volume VSS snapshot that includes a system volume and a Storage
Foundation for Windows volume will fail. This limitation applies when a
VSS-enabled backup program, such as Backup Exec, is being used. If backing up a
server that includes Storage Foundation for Windows volumes and VSS is to be
used, do not back up the entire server in a single backup job. Back up your
system volume in one backup job and the remaining volumes in a second backup
job.
12. Backup Exec 9.1 for Windows Servers support for Microsoft
SharePoint Portal Server 2003 requires the purchase of the Backup Exec for
Windows Servers Agent for Microsoft SQL Server. Backup and restore procedures
are outlined in a VERITAS white paper located at
http://eval.veritas.com/downloads/pro/backup_exec/bews_91_sps_2003_wp.pdf.
13. Backup
Exec 9.1 for Windows Servers does not support backup job fail-over of Oracle
Fail Safe.
14. Backup Exec 9.1 for Windows Servers support for
NetWare 6.5 requires NetWare 6.5 Service Pack 1 be
installed.
15. For information on configuring a SAP R/3 system
running on the SAP DB database for use with the VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) Agent
for R/3 for Oracle Server, please

.
17. Intelligent
Disaster Recovery (IDR) Will not work properly with Windows 2003 SBS SP1
integrated CDs. Contact Microsoft so obtain a non-SP1 integrated SBS
CD.
