How to perform a local installation of the Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Servers or the Advanced Open File Option

Details:
The preferred method of performing a local install of the Backup Exec (tm) Remote Agent for Windows Servers (RAWS) or the Advanced Open File Option (AOFO) on a remote server, is to copy the remote agent installation folder RANT32/RAWS32(in 11d/12.x) from the media server to the remote server, and then run one of the pre-configured setup command files (setupaa.cmd or setupaofo.cmd) from the remote server's command prompt.

To perform a local install of the RAWS or AOFO on a remote Windows server, follow the instructions given below:

1. If Backup Exec 8.x for Windows NT or Windows 2000 version, or an earlier version of the Open File Option (OFO) or the Remote Agent is installed on the remote server, uninstall the OFO and the remote agent through Add/Remove Programs, and then reboot the server

2. Copy the entire RANT32/RAWS32(in 11d/12.x) and MSXML folders from the Backup Exec media server's installation folder to the root of the C drive on the remote server.

Note: If the MSXML folder is not copied with the RANT32/RAWS32 (in 11d/12.x) folder, RAWS and AOFO fail to install, and the bkupinst log reports the error "Backup exec cannot find the msxml folder".

Note: The default path to the RANT32/RAWS32 (in 11d/12.x) folder is C:\Program Files\Veritas\Backup Exec\NT\Agents\RANT32/C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\NT\Agents\RAWS32(in 11d/12.x) (Figure 1); this can be changed during the installation of Backup Exec for Windows Servers.

3. On the remote server, go to the command prompt, (click Start | Run, type cmd, and then click OK), and type the following commands:

a. C:\>cd RANT32/RAWS32(11d/12.x)(to change to the RANT32/RAWS32(11d/12.x) directory)
b. C:\RANT32/RAWS32(11d)\>setupaa.cmd (to install the RAWS only)
c. C:\RANT32/RAWS32(11d)\>setupaofo.cmd (to install the AOFO and the RAWS together) (Figure 2)

Note: If setupaofo.cmd is run to install the AOFO, the server must be rebooted to initialize the AOFO driver.

4. Go to Start>All Programs>Symantec Backup Exec for Windows Servers>Remote Agent Utility
   Click on Publishing Tab
   Click Change Settings
Go Back to Publishing Tab and Add the name or IP address of the Media Server.

a. Go to Start | Programs | Administrative Tools | Services
b. Locate the Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Servers service.
c. Verify the service is present and in a "started" state on a local system account.
d. Restart the service once.

5. Verify that AOFO is started:

For Windows 2000:

a. Open Computer Management
b. Click System Tools | System Information | Software Environment | Drivers.
c. Click any driver listed in the right pane, press the "V" key, then look for the driver vsp.sys, which is the Volume Snapshot Provider Kernel Driver. This should be started (Figure 3).
