When installing the Remote Agent for Windows Servers Service, the service may not install, or the service may not start up after the install.

Details:
During the installation of the Remote Agent for Windows Servers (RAWS), an error in the bkupinst.log file may report "Error 1920 : Service BackupExecAgentAccelerator (BackupExecAgentAccelerator) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services."

In some cases,  the actual install of the Remote Agent is successful, but the service fails to start after a reboot of the system. Inside the Event Viewer Application Log, Event ID 58116 will be logged with the message "The Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Servers Service did not start. The NDMP TCP/IP port 10000 is already in use. Please make sure that no other TCP/IP application is using this port." (Figure 1)

These errors occur because another application is using port 10,000. Best Software Accounting Application MAS90 and MAS200 is configured by default to use port 10,000. VERITAS Software recommends that port 10,000 be used for Network Data Management Protocol (NDMP) communication, as this is the port defined for NDMP by the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority, but the port defined for NDMP can be changed. To change this port, please refer to the Related Documents section on how to perform this.

The following steps have been provided by Best Software to change MAS90 and MAS200 to use a different port. If any clarification is needed on these steps, please contact Best Software.

1. At the server:
a. If Host program is running as an stand-alone application:
1. Edit the Host.EXE shortcut properties to include the Port ID at the end of the 'Target' command line: "C:\MAS200\Mas90\Home\Host.exe xxxx" (no quotes)  where xxxx = 9000 - 10000.  Note: If no value after 'Host.exe', the Port ID will default to 10000.

b. If Host program is running as a service:
1. On server, access Control Panel / Host Service Manager. Select 'Host Service'.
2. Click on Settings button. Change port number on 'Settings' screen.

2. At the workstations:
a. Change the Port ID at the workstation using one of the following procedures:
1. Rerun Workstation Setup (..\Mas90\Wksetup\SETUP.EXE)  and change the Port ID to desired port number in Step 1 above.
2. Edit the workstation's local ..\Mas90\Launcher\SOTA.INI in the [Servers] section. e.g. 1=server_name;255.255.255.255;xxxx;PATH=\\server_name\90cs\MAS90 (xxxx = Port ID, must be 9000 - 10000)

Note: If Workstation Setup is used, a dialogue box will appear showing a list of servers with the different Port IDs that have been defined when MAS200 is started up. If the previous Port ID is no longer valid, it should be deleted at this point. This dialogue box will not appear if the SOTA.INI is edited.
