How to confirm that an Exchange mailbox name is unique within the Exchange organization when configuring Backup Exec to backup mailboxes or if a GRT (Granular Restore Technology) based backup does not display individual mailboxes for restore
Details:
In order to
back up and restore individual Exchange mailboxes or to view mailboxes from a
GRT (Granular Restore Technology) based backup, Symantec Backup
Exec for Windows Servers (tm) requires access to a uniquely named
mailbox within the Exchange organization. A unique name is one that does not
exist in the organization as a subset of characters in another mailbox name. If
the mailbox name is not unique within the organization, Backup Exec will not
accept the name and you are prompted to select another mailbox name.
To use the Outlook client to confirm that the mailbox
selected for Exchange mailbox backups is unique in the Exchange
organization:
1. Open Outlook on any server or workstation in the
Exchange organization
2. Under
Outlook Shortcuts, click
Inbox, and then click
New to open a new email message (Figure
1)

3. In the
To box of the
Untitled Message, type the first
two or three characters of the Exchange mailbox selected for use in mailbox
backups, and then press <Ctrl+K>. If the mailbox name is unique in the
Exchange organization, the name will be underlined (Figure 2).

4. If the
mailbox name is not unique, then the
Check Names dialog box will be
displayed with multiple mailboxes that share a common subset (Figure

Note: If the
Check Names dialog box appears, then the
mailbox name specified is not unique, and a different mailbox name must be
specified. Please note that the mailbox specified must be associated with a user
account that has full rights to the Exchange server, as described in the
documents listed in the Related Documents section of this TechNote.
