Unable to perform Sony or Spectralogic robotic library operations with Backup Exec for Windows Servers 9.x and above
Details:
When attempting to perform any operation, such as an
inventory, erase, label media, backup, restore, or catalog, the library does not
appear to function correctly, and an alert appears stating that the library has
reported multiple "hardware" errors (Figure 1).

The
error occurs when the media attempts to mount and dismount correctly. Backup
Exec (tm) contains a registry key that allows this device to correctly mount and
dismount media.
To enable this functionality, do the
following:
1. Quit Backup Exec
2. Start
BEUtility
(located by default in
C:\Program Files\VERITAS\Backup Exec\NT or C:\Program
Files\Symantec\Backup Exec) and select the Backup Exec media
server
3. Under
Services Tasks, select the option to
Stop
Services4. Start
