How to change the user name or password of the Backup Exec Services Account in Backup Exec for Windows Servers (BEWS)

Details:
There are times when the user name or password of the Backup Exec Services Account must be changed. Backup Exec Services Manager can be used to simplify this process.
Before using the Backup Exec Services Manager to change the user name or password of the Backup Exec Services Account, the user name and password must already exist. Backup Exec Services Manager does not create an account or set its password; it only configures all of the Backup Exec services to use the specified account name and password.
To change the user name or password, do the following:
1. Double-click Backup Exec Services Manager (Figure 1)

2. Click Services credentials (Figure 2)

3. Enter the required Backup Exec Services Account information in the Service Account Information Window and then click OK (Figure 3)

4. All Backup Exec Services information will be changed (Figure 4)

5. After applying the new settings,  a message to restart Backup Exec Services will appear. Click OK (Figure 5).

If the attempt failed, verify the user name, domain name and password information entered in the Service Account Information window.
Note: All Backup Exec services should be stopped and restarted before proceeding with future Backup Exec jobs. This can be accomplished by clicking Stop all services and Start all services (Figure 2).


To change the Backup Exec service account credentials using BEUtility do the following:
Method I
1. Go to the <Drive Name>:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec directory (default location), and double-click on BEUtility.exe to run it.
2. Expand Known Media Servers, right-click on All Media Servers, select New Media Server.(Figure 6)

3. Enter the name of the media server or Click the browse button and select the name of the Media server for which you wish to change the service account credentials (Figure 7)

4. The media server now appears in the right window pane when you click on All Media servers.(Figure 8)

5. In the right window pane, select the Backup Exec media server, and then click Change Service Account from the General Task options in the left window pane (Figure 9)

6. The Set Service Account window appears. Enter the login name and password and click Ok (Figure 10)

7. This account is now given the following rights:

8. The Backup Exec service account is changed and an Operation Progress window appears. Click Close to return to Backup Exec console.(Figure 11)

Method II
9. Click on Tools | Backup Exec Services (Figure 12)

10. Click on option Service Credentials in the Backup Exec Services Manager which opens the Service account information window.(Figure 13)

11. Enter the username and password. Select the appropriate domain name and click Ok.(Figure 14)

12. Backup Exec prompts you to restart the services for the changes to take effect. Click Ok.(Figure 15)

13. Click Ok in the Reconfiguration Status window after the processing is completed.  
14. In the Backup Exec Services Manager click on Restart all services to restart the services and return to Backup Exec console. (Figure 16). For 9.x stop and start all the services.
