1. Stop all Backup Exec for Windows Servers services
2. Run
REGEDIT.EXE

6. Start the Backup Exec for Windows Servers services
After the Backup Exec Job Engine and Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Servers
service are started, two log files will be created in the Backup Exec
\Logs directory, which is located in one of the following directories:
Backup Exec 10d or below: \Program Files\Veritas\Backup Exec\NT\Logs by default
Backup Exec 11d or above: \Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\Logs by default.
The name of the log files will follow the format of
<ServerName>-BENGINEXX.Log for the
Backup Exec Job Engine service, and
<ServerName>-BEREMOTEXX.LOG for the Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Servers service. The XX will increment each time the services are started with the -debug option, so that a new log file is created. That is,
Server1-BENGINE01.LOG would be an example of a debug log from the Backup Exec Job Engine service. Please provide these logs and the corresponding job log(s) from the Backup Exec console for review.
Note: Debugging that occurs through the Services applet is temporary and cycling the services or rebooting the machine will stop the debugging. Debugging configured through the Windows Registry allows for continuous debugging. Leaving the services in debugging mode will cause the logs to build up. For this reason, it is advisable to either take the services out of debugging mode when the problem is resolved, delete the older debug files, or configure the logs directory to be compressed. Please keep this in mind when determining which method of debugging to perform on a system.
If it is requested by support, the registry can be altered to change the amount of detail that is reported in the logs as follows:

Engine NDMP Debug Level (for the Backup Exec job engine) and
RANT NDMP Debug Level (for Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Servers) to either of the following:
0 - Logs Initialize, De-Initialize, and error messages
1 - Logs Initialize, De-Initialize, error messages, and flow of Network Data Management Protocol (NDMP) control
2 - Logs all activity from NDMP (this setting can drastically slow down the server)
Note: Changing the NDMP Debug Level setting is not recommended under most circumstances.
