How to install the Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Servers (RAWS)

Details:

To install the Remote Agent for Windows Servers to a remote computer, perform the following steps:

1. On the backup media server, launch Backup Exec. Click Tools | Serial Numbers and Installation or Tools | Install Agents and Media Servers on Other Servers (Figure 1).

Installation can also be initiated from Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs. Select Backup Exec, and then click Change.

4. Type the serial number for the Remote Agent that needs to be installed, click Add and then click Next (Figure 3)

Note 1: When installing the Remote Agent on a Windows Workstation, no serial number is required, unless it is a Windows Vista Machine.

Note 2:  Backup Exec Database Agents and the Advanced Open File Option (AOFO) also include a Remote Agent that allows one remote Windows Server to be protected. The Remote Agent License is enabled when installing the database agent and the AOFO Serial Numbers on the media server. However, if the database agent or AOFO will be used only on the local media server, the Remote Agent that was included with one of those options can be used for one remote Windows Server so that resource can be protected by Backup Exec. In this case, no Remote Agent Serial Number is required.

6. From the Backup Exec Remote Features screen, right-click Windows Agent/Option Computers and click Add Remote computer (Figure 4)

8. The Remote Computer Login Credentials information dialog is displayed. Type the user name and password of the account that has administrative rights on each remote computer, and click OK (Figure 5).

Note 1:  If typing in domain login credentials, select the "domain" from the Domain drop-down box. If typing in domain login credentials and the domain does not appear in the Domain drop down box, type in the domain name in the Domain drop-down box. If login credentials are not domain login credentials, select the "remote computer name" from the Domain drop-down box.

Note 2:  Select Remember User Name and Password to use the same login credentials when installing additional Remote Agents.

Note:  If the Advanced Open File Option (AOFO) was also installed in step #9, a reboot of the remote computer is required (regardless of the operating system on the remote computer).

What to do if the push installation of the Remote Agent fails?

If the push installation of the Remote Agent fails, perform a "local" installation of the Remote Agent instead. For information about performing a "local" installation of the Remote Agent, please reference TechNote 258982 (  http://support.veritas.com/docs/258982 ).
