Tapes that have been written to using the HP TapeWare application show up as unrecognized media in Backup Exec for Windows NT and Windows 2000.

Details:
The format used by HP TapeWare is incompatible with Backup Exec for Windows NT and Windows 2000.  The workaround for this symptom is to use Windows native backup application to reformat the tape header so that Backup Exec can once again use the media.

I. Windows NT 4.0

Start NTBackup with the /nopoll parameter and then erase the tape. The /nopoll parameter prevent NTBackup from scanning the tape (please refer to Related Documents section below for further information).

II. For Windows 2000

1. Stop the services for Backup Exec.
2. Windows 2000 systems cannot use the VERITAS device drivers.  If VERITAS drivers are installed, use the Tapeinst.exe utility to remove the VERITAS drivers then reboot to install the OEM or Manufacturer's drivers (please refer to Related Documents section below for further information).
3. Open up the native Windows 2000 backup application and place the tape in the drive.  After inserting the tape the Busy LED on the tape drive flashes for about 30 to 60 seconds.
4. Then Figure 1 should appear.

5. Select Yes.  There will not be any visible activity but your tapes will be ready to use.
6. Uninstall oem driver and scan hardware.
7. Run tapeinst.exe to install the VERITAS Drivers and reboot.
8. Launch Backup Exec and inventory the tape. It should now be recognized properly.
