This utility is located on the VERITAS Backup Exec (tm)
CD-ROM and is copied to the hard disk during installation of Backup Exec. If the
BACKUP EXEC was downloaded, its location on the hard disk is the same as was
chosen for the installation directory of Backup Exec; the default path is
<drive>:\Program Files\VERITAS\Backup
Exec\NT.
I. Installing VERITAS Tape Device
DriversLocate the file,
tapeinst.exe and double-click to
execute it as in Figures 1 and 2.

The screen shown
in figure 3 offers the following options:

The first choice
is to install VERITAS drivers for all devices, meaning, if there is a device on
the system that Backup Exec supports and provides drivers for, then the
installer will detect it and copy the appropriate driver to the system. In most
cases the system will need to be rebooted before the driver loads.
The
second choice is to install VERITAS drivers for any devices that Backup Exec
supports and provides drivers for, that does not currently have a driver loaded.
In most cases the system will need to be rebooted before the driver
loads.
The third choice is to uninstall and remove all Backup Exec
drivers. In most cases the system will need to be rebooted before the driver
unloads.
The fourth choice is to delete entries for tape devices that are
not available. This option is available in Backup Exec 9.0 and later. All
configuration entries are deleted for tape devices that are not available, have
been removed, or are turned off. To use these tape devices again, run the
VERITAS Device Driver Installer to reload the VERITAS tape drivers.
The
fifth choice is to use Plug and Play drivers. This option is available in Backup
Exec 9.0 and later. This selection is recommended for Windows 2000 or
later.
If it is desired to use VERITAS drivers for all devices, select
the first option. If it is desired to install VERITAS drivers for devices that
do not already have drivers loaded, select the second option and click
Next.
The driver wizard will search for devices as seen in Figure
4. When it completes, click
Next.

Figure 5 displays
the driver being installed and the device it will control, click
Next.

Figure 6 shows
the Finish screen, informing that a reboot of the system me be necessary, click
Finish.

II. Uninstalling
VERITAS Tape Device Drivers.Locate the file
tapeinst.exe
and double-click to execute it as in Figures 1 and 2 (as displayed at the top of
the page).
This time select the third choice as seen below in Figure
6.

The driver wizard will display a screen showing the removal of the
VERITAS device drivers (Figure 7).

Upon clicking
Next, a prompt may appear asking for a reboot (Figure
8).

If it is safe to reboot, then click
Yes, if not click
No.
If
No is selected, a Finish screen is displayed (Figure
9).

Once the server has been rebooted, the driver will have been removed and
unloaded.
