How to manually uninstall the Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Servers (RAWS)
Details:
Please note: An attempt should first be made to un-install the Remote Agent for Windows Servers (RAWS) or Advanced Open File Option (AOFO) via the Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs Applet on a remote Windows Machine. The procedure below to manually remove RAWS should only be performed once it has been confirmed the agent cannot be properly removed via Add/Remove Programs:
1. On the remote machine, download and install the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility from Microsoft's Site:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/en-us
2. Launch the utility and only remove the entry
Veritas Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Systems <OR>
Symantec Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Systems.
3. Map a drive letter to the Backup Exec (tm) for Windows Servers Media Server's
RANT32, RAWS32, or RAWSX64 (if an x64 bit machine) directory using the following path:
\Program Files\VERITAS\Backup Exec\NT\Agents\RANT32 <OR>
\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\\Agents\RAWS32 or RAWSX64
4. At the command prompt, enter the mapped drive letter.
5. Type
setup.exe /AOFO: -s -u, and press <Enter>. The command also uninstalls
<RAWS
> from the system and will remove AOFO (Advanced Open File Option) Entries if any possibly exist on the machine.
Warning: Incorrect use of the Windows registry editor may prevent the operating system from functioning properly. Great care should be taken when making changes to a Windows registry. Registry modifications should only be carried-out by persons experienced in the use of the registry editor application. It is recommended that a complete backup of the registry and workstation be made prior to making any registry changes.
6. On the remote machine, launch the registry editor (
Start>Run>REGEDT32) and remove the keys below if they are present:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VERITAS\Agent Accelerator for Windows NT/2000
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BackupExecAgentAccelerator
<OR>
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\Backup Exec for Windows\Remote Agent for Windows Servers
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BackupExecAgentAccelerator
For Windows 2000 Systems, the following additional registry key also needs to be deleted if the Backup Exec 8.x. Remote Agent was ever installed. Otherwise, an entry may remain in Add/Remove Programs and the Remote Agent for Windows Servers may not re-install properly.
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\installer\Products\10A55C2358659574A8CDA75C2E1CFCCA4.
7. Delete the following folders if they exist from the remote machine via Windows Explorer:
C:\Rant
<OR>
C:\Program Files\VERITAS\Backup Exec\RANT
<OR>
C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\RAWS
