How to perform an Intelligent Disaster Recovery of a remote Windows NT 4.0 server/workstation using the Express Setup option
Details:
1. Insert the bootable diskettes and follow the on-screen
instructions.
2. When the Windows NT setup instructions appear, press
ENTER and choose Express Setup (Figure 1).

Note: In most cases, you
should use Express Setup. Use Custom Setup if the SCSI drivers are
not present on the boot media or you have RAID hardware that needs to be
configured.
3. Windows NT Setup will attempt to scan the
system for new hardware. If a new hard drive is detected on the system, select a
file system (FAT or NTFS), and then press ENTER (Figures 2 to
4).

4. The Windows NT Setup will copy the necessary files
to the hard drive. Verify that no diskettes or CDs are in the drives, and then
press ENTER to restart the computer (Figures 5 to 6).

5. The Intelligent Disaster Recovery Wizard is
automatically started. When the wizard appears, insert the diskette which
contains the latest disaster recovery (DR) file information into drive
A. To use a DR file for automatic recovery, click Next (Figure
7).

6. Select the DR file for the protected
computer, and then click Next (Figure 8).

7. The wizard displays the partition information
screen. To make partition changes, click Run Disk Administrator,
and then follow the prompts for partitioning the hard drive. Click Next
to continue with the recovery process (Figure 9).

8. At the Select Restore Method screen,
select Use the network to restore from a remote backup server, and
then click Next (Figure 10).

9. The Install Windows NT Networking screen will
be displayed.
Selecting Automatic will
use the network adapter drivers in use prior to the disaster.
Selecting Manual will
allow Windows NT to install drivers.
10. A prompt to provide OEM driver media may be
displayed (Figure 11). Click Next.

11. The Windows NT Networking will be installed
(Figures 12 to 14). Click Finish when complete.

12. A prompt to log in to a VERITAS Backup Exec (tm)
server, where the tape device is located, is displayed. Enter the Backup Exec
Service account information, and then click Next (Figure
15).

13. The Intelligent Disaster Recovery (IDR) displays a
list of drive letters to restore. Each drive letter corresponds to a backup set
listed in the computer's Disaster Recovery file. Select the drives that are to
be automatically restored, and then click I will provide my own restore media
(Figure 16).

14. After clicking I will provide my own restore
media, go to the Backup Exec for Windows NT server, select the backup set to
be restored, and then perform a restore operation to the target computer (Figure
17).

15. For the automatic restore, IDR runs the job on the
Backup Exec for Windows NT server (Figures 18 to 20).

16. Once the recovery process is complete, the
Automated Process Complete screen will appear. Click No to
complete the Registry update process (Figures 21 and 22).

17. Click Finish to reboot to the original
operating system (Figure 23).
