How to uninstall the VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) Windows NT Agent Accelerator (NTAA) manually

Details:
In most circumstances, the Backup Exec Windows NT Agent Accelerator (NTAA) can be successfully uninstalled by either:

1. Using Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel.

2. Running DelNTAA.exe from the \BENTAA directory.


If the Backup Exec Windows NT Agent Accelerator cannot be removed using either of the options given above, the agent can be manually removed by following these steps:

1. Stop the Backup Exec Agent Accelerator service in Control Panel | Services (Figure 1).

For Backup Exec for Windows NT 7.0: Backup Exec 7.0 Agent Accelerator

2. Delete the directory X:\BENTAA, where X is the drive letter where the Agent Accelerator files are located.

3. Click Start on the taskbar, select Run, and then type regedit.

4. Delete the registry key listed below (Figure 2).

For Backup Exec 7.3:
/HKEY_Local_Machine/System/CurrentControlSet/Services/BackupExecAgentAccelerator

For Backup Exec 7.2, 7.0x:
/HKEY_Local_Machine/System/CurrentControlSet/Services/SeagateBackupExecAgent Accelerator

Warning: Incorrect use of the Windows registry editor may prevent the operating system from functioning properly. Great care should be taken when making changes to a Windows registry. Registry modifications should only be carried out by persons experienced in the use of the registry editor application. It is recommended that a complete backup of the registry and workstation be made prior to making any registry changes.
